Board members serve on a voluntary basis to serve the needs of our community and to assist the city council. Service requires dedication and understanding of governmental decorum. Board and commissions fill an important role in the city by evaluating community issues and making recommendations to the city council. The ability to create boards and commissions is an inherent power given to home rule cities by the State of Texas. Boards and commission meetings are open to the public unless the meeting adjourns to closed session. Agendas and minutes of each meeting are kept by the city secretary and placed on the city's website. Appointments to fill board vacancies are filled as needed. Nominations are made by the board and approved by the city council. New terms begin in January; therefore, reappointment approvals must be included on the December city council agenda. The City of White Oak currently has the following boards and commissions:
Board of Adjustments
Community Development Board
Planning & Zoning Commission
White Oak Economic Development Board
